Bio:

A Textile and Fashion designer based out of Vancouver B.C. Carlie-jean Finch works out of her home studio where she creates art to wear garments, using surface design techniques to create one of a kind pieces.

Choosing the name from a book written by scholar Siegfried Kracauer, Carlie-jean established the label 'The Mass Ornament'. The purpose of her work is to create pieces that express individuality within a multifaceted world. Inspired by clothing's relationship with communication and reflection with our current society. The importance of hand-crafted textiles is a large motivator for Carlie-jean Finch, who makes everything from the textiles, patterns to the final product.

Presently, Carlie-jean is working collaboratively creating and building an experimental studio lab, devoted to ingenuity within all facets of art. This studio has a direct tie to her involvement in The Vancouver Emerging Designers Showcase, where she serves as Creative Director.

Statement:

Growing up a competitive figure skater, the art of movement and shape captivates and inspires me. This allows me to fully engage in the potentials of my materials. A large part of the process is my intuitive design; there isn't a lot of pre-planning, for I allow my emotions to guide me through my work. I chose to work and explore all fibre types, from natural to industrial. It is important for me to create fashion that doesn't follow a season or time, to have a true connection to the pieces. I am devoted to never repeating myself and to always challenge my reason and desires.
